Pire : Le Khalife Serigne Pape Abdou Cissé recadre l’opposition sénégalaise
The 123rd edition of the annual Gamou of Pire served as a platform for the Khalif of the Tafsir Abdou Cissé family of Pire Gourey, Serigne Pape Abdou Cissé, to invite the opposition "not to be negative".
The religious leader argued that the opposition must recognize the efforts made by the current regime to maintain economic stability in the country after a colossal debt found there, recognized and attested by national and international institutions as well as by reliable expert firms.
"One can oppose while recognizing the reality of the facts, without being negative. The opposition must stop denying the existence of this debt," the Khalifa said.
Regarding the relationship between religious leaders and state authorities, the man of God was keen to clarify that "a religious leader can support a regime, but that does not make him a politician. His role is to support the implementation of public policies, and he can do so in several ways: through prayers, mediation, or by making public statements."
