Popenguine 2026 : Le CMS renforce son dispositif de soutien à l'Église catholique
Just days before the major Marian pilgrimage to Popenguine, Crédit Mutuel du Sénégal (CMS) wished to express its solidarity with the Catholic community. On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, a high-level delegation was received by the Archbishop of Dakar, Monsignor André Gueye.
This meeting, which has become a republican and spiritual tradition, is part of the constant support that the financial institution provides to the organization of this major gathering of faith in Senegal.
Led by Pape Serigne Ba, president of the CMS Foundation board, the delegation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the event's success. Beyond the customary greetings, the CMS announced concrete material assistance, including essential supplies such as water, rice, and oil. "This is an event that draws large crowds. We come every year to demonstrate how the CMS supports the pilgrimage," explained Pape Serigne Ba.
The institution will also use this gathering to promote its technological innovations, including the digitalization of its services, allowing members to manage their transactions remotely.
More than 30 years in the service of national cohesion
This support is not new. As Magalie Okombi Ngala, Director of Heritage and General Services, pointed out, the CMS sees itself as "Senegal in miniature," encompassing all the country's religious brotherhoods and faiths. For over three decades, the institution has supported the Church in its social and religious activities. According to Magalie Okombi Ngala, this support reflects the core identity of a bank that belongs to all Senegalese, regardless of their religious affiliation.
Receiving this donation with gratitude, the Archbishop of Dakar praised the gesture, which strengthens national cohesion. Monsignor André Gueye emphasized that this heartfelt contribution is essential for the continued organization of an event with international reach. He recalled that Popenguine is, by its very nature, a space of fraternity where Muslims and Christians unite in prayer for peace. Offering his best wishes for the institution's prosperity, the prelate expressed his hope that Crédit Mutuel du Sénégal would remain permanently "at the heart of the concerns and aspirations of the Senegalese people."
