Saint-Louis : Des produits prohibés d’une valeur de plus de 113 millions F CFA détruits à Gandon
A major operation to destroy prohibited products took place this Wednesday at the Gandon landfill. Initiated by the regional hygiene brigade, in collaboration with the Saint-Louis Regional Directorate of Commerce, dozens of tons of goods unfit for consumption were incinerated, just one week after a similar operation carried out by customs services.
The destroyed goods include foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, veterinary products, and detergents deemed hazardous to public health. The total value of these goods exceeds 113 million CFA francs.
According to the regional director of Commerce in Saint-Louis, Dr. Ousmane Diallo, the majority of these seizures were made by his services during the year 2025. The goods intercepted by the Regional Directorate of Commerce alone represent an estimated value of 107,383,260 CFA francs.
For his part, the head of the regional hygiene brigade stated that, during the last quarter, his agents seized nearly 7 tons of products unfit for consumption. These goods, withdrawn from the market, are valued at 6,418,400 CFA francs.
Presiding over the ceremony, the deputy prefect of Saint-Louis commended the commitment and vigilance of the inspection services in the fight against the sale of dangerous products. He also urged economic operators to demonstrate greater responsibility in order to protect public health and to curb this phenomenon in the long term.
