Saint-Louis : Le colonel Alioune Samassa installé à la tête de la zone militaire n°2
Military Zone 2 in Saint-Louis has a new commander. Colonel Alioune Samassa officially took office this Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during a solemn ceremony presided over by Lieutenant General Mbaye Cissé, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Several civil, military, and administrative authorities were present to mark the event.
A highlight of military tradition, this installation allowed Colonel Samassa to outline his main strategic orientations. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of anticipating security threats, but above all the need for close cooperation with the population.
"Without it, no security strategy can prosper," he said, stressing that the success of defense missions depends as much on citizen vigilance as on military operations. Colonel Alioune Samassa succeeds Colonel Thiéndelé Fall, who has been transferred to other duties.
With this appointment, the Senegalese army reaffirms its desire to strengthen security in the northern region, a strategic area, bordering several countries in the sub-region.
