Sandaga : le commerçant pillait son grossiste pour remplir ses propres rayons
Found guilty of theft, the 36-year-old trader Mr. Sakho was sentenced on Monday to one month in prison by the Dakar court.
To stock his shop in Ouakam, as detailed by Les Échos, which attended the hearing, this Kaolack native took advantage of his visits to his wholesale supplier in Sandaga to steal cosmetics and luxury perfumes, which he concealed in his bag. His scheme was uncovered by CCTV footage, which filmed him on four separate occasions.
Questioned by the gendarmerie at the fairgrounds, he was implicated by the investigation. A search of his shop led to the seizure of several products, including Novas perfumes, collagen soaps, face creams, and body lotions. After initially denying the charges, he finally confessed, claiming it was a "mistake" to keep his business stocked.
Despite the plea from Mr. Seyba Danfakha, who argued that the damages were minimal (estimated at less than 200,000 CFA francs) and that his client, who arrived in Dakar in 2019, was the family breadwinner, the court followed the prosecution's recommendations. In addition to the prison sentence, the civil claims of the victim, Abdoulaye Sèye, were reserved, the same source concluded.
