Saraya/Kolia : Les autorités aux chevet des sinistrés du fleuve Falémé
The village of Kolia, located in the Saraya department, is experiencing difficult times after the flooding of the Falémé River, which caused significant material damage and forced several families to leave their homes. Faced with this situation, local authorities quickly mobilized to support the victims.
A delegation led by Saraya Deputy Prefect Mamadou Farba Sy visited the site to assess the extent of the damage and engage with local residents. The mission included the sub-prefect of Bembou, the mayor of the commune, Alfred Birame Mbaye, the head of the departmental agriculture department, and members of the defense and security forces.
Residents affected, but supported
Welcoming the delegation, the village chief, Elhadji Koliba Dansokho, expressed his satisfaction. According to him, this presence on the ground demonstrates the authorities' special attention to the suffering populations.
"It's a sign of solidarity and it reassures us to know that we are not forgotten," he said.
Commitments for a better future
The mayor of Bembou, Mady Danfakha, promised to provide concrete support to the affected families. He also announced a strengthened partnership with the village vigilance committee to raise awareness among residents and prepare for their rehousing in new, more secure housing developments.
A call for caution and responsibility
For his part, the deputy prefect insisted on the aggravating causes of the floods, in particular the anarchic occupation of water passage areas.
"We must be reasonable and avoid building in these vulnerable areas. It's the best way to avoid the same consequences every year. Help us help you," he urged.
This visit by the authorities, beyond compassion, marks the beginning of a series of measures intended to support the victims and better prevent disasters linked to the flooding of the Falémé River.
