Sébikotane : le mouvement Sebi La Deukk dénonce l'entrave à la célébration du Bébé de l'Année 2026
The Sebi La Deukk Movement expresses its strong indignation following the incidents that occurred during the celebration of the first newborn of the year in the commune of Sébikotane. Committed since December 2024 to socio-economic development and the improvement of local living conditions, the organization has always placed community health at the heart of its priorities. This support was already demonstrated in 2025, when the movement saved the organization of this ceremony from cancellation due to a lack of funding.
Unfortunately, the 2026 edition was marred by a disruption that the movement considers completely unjustified. According to President Ameth Ndoye, a deputy mayor of the municipality attempted to prevent the delegation from accessing the maternity ward under false pretenses. This intervention occurred while the distribution of gifts to the newborn's family was taking place in perfect coordination with the medical staff of the health facility.
The Sebi La Deukk Movement condemns in the strongest possible terms the physical and verbal violence, as well as the destruction of property, that marred this event. It denounces the irresponsible and brutal behavior of a local elected official, whose role should be to guarantee security and social cohesion rather than to incite public unrest. These acts are considered a serious impediment to the principles of citizen participation and inclusive governance.
Addressing the public opinion of Sébikotane, President Ameth Ndoye reaffirmed his movement's commitment to the values of peace and solidarity. He called for the emergence of exemplary and responsible leadership, focused on the well-being of citizens and the development of the municipality, far removed from the scenes of violence and unnecessary tensions that harm the community.
