Secteur de la cimenterie : Ousmane Sonko siffle la fin des privilèges fiscaux
Speaking to the press on Thursday to provide an update on the renegotiation of strategic contracts, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko delivered a scathing indictment of past management of national resources. Following the rejection of Indorama, the operator of Industries Chimiques du Sénégal (ICS), a company specializing in phosphate mining, the Prime Minister also revealed shocking figures concerning the cement sector.
Indeed, according to Ousmane Sonko, the Senegalese state has lost astronomical sums due to agreements deemed too liberal and the non-payment of royalties. According to the renegotiation commission's report presented to the press this Thursday, the shortfall in this sector is estimated at 418 billion CFA francs, broken down as follows: "160 billion CFA francs for the first cement plant; 148 billion CFA francs for the second; 63 billion CFA francs for the third; 47 billion CFA francs for the fourth."
“For practically the same reasons: non-payment of royalties and tax breaks granted under similar conditions,” he criticized. To remedy this, the government has enacted “the immediate realignment of these companies with the standard tax regime.” With the elimination of these exemptions, the State expects additional revenue of 360 billion FCFA per year.
