The missions of the National Financial Information Processing Unit (CENTIF) were presented on Tuesday to territorial actors in the Kaffrine region, during a regional development committee meeting dedicated to the issues and challenges of financial security in Senegal.

The meeting, chaired by Governor Babacar Kane, is part of the national awareness campaign led by the National Coordination Committee for the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Moulaye Dicko, director of financial intelligence at CENTIF, explained that this initiative is preparing for Senegal's upcoming peer review by its member countries, under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA). "We are preparing for Senegal's next peer review with the involvement of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors," he emphasized.

He noted that this assessment comes after Senegal's removal, in October 2024, from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. According to him, the campaign aims to share the results of the 2025 update of the National Risk Assessment, in order to strengthen the shared understanding of the threats related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It should also promote the integration of these risks into the practices of all stakeholders.

Moulaye Dicko added that the main challenges relate to strengthening the capacities of actors, including the criminal justice system, control and supervisory authorities, as well as those subject to it, "with a particular focus on the non-financial sector".

For his part, the governor reaffirmed the commitment of the State and its decentralized services to support this national initiative. "The fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism is a matter of sovereignty and national security. It requires the contribution of everyone, from the decision-making level down to local implementation structures," declared Babacar Kane.
