Semaine de la jeunesse à Mbour : ces autres points du discours de Ousmane Sonko
Facing young people from all fourteen regions of Senegal, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko presented himself not as the head of government, but as "a father speaking to his son".
"I am not speaking to you as Prime Minister. I am not speaking to you as an official. I am speaking to you like a father speaking to his son... However, you must help us, do not be impatient. Stand together behind what we are going to do. We are not asking you to wait ten years, this work that we have started is for you. You will gradually see the results because the work we are doing today is for you and not for us," said Ousmane Sonko.
Addressing the issue of change, Ousmane Sonko spoke of a revolution that he says he is leading with the Senegalese people. A revolution he describes as a long, demanding process fraught with obstacles, but whose outcome will depend on perseverance and collective commitment.
"This Senegal is yours, not Ousmane Sonko's. It is not the Senegal of all those old men who have failed and who now want to manipulate you to return. Let no one drag you into childish stories. Dear young people, together we will succeed in the revolution we promised, that we promised ourselves, that we promised to the Senegalese people, that we promised to the whole world. A revolution is built over time, a revolution encounters difficulties, upheavals. Time is the best judge and time will judge who is revolutionary and who was not," he said.
In a state of great enthusiasm, he assigned a central role to the youth: that of guardian of this revolution.
"You, the youth, be the guardians of this revolution. Be the watchdogs of the qualitative change that will allow you, the youth, to reap the benefits of the efforts we have made together in 5 years, in 10 years. Be the guardians, every single day. Because people have lost their lives so that this country could change, never forget that. People have suffered so that this country could change, never forget that. And certainly, the majority of you have endured these hardships. I told the Assembly that I am the guide of the revolution. You, the youth, are the guardians of this revolution," urged Ousmane Sonko.
The head of government concluded this national youth week by declaring: "This week that you have lived with such fervor and passion, this week does not end, it begins. It begins with you, returning home, but not empty-handed. You return with something invisible, yet indestructible. The certainty that you can, the proof that you have, is the promise of what you will become. Senegal has faith in you, the government I lead has faith in you. I have faith in you. May this flame never be extinguished."
