Tambacounda : il enlève et viole la mineure dont on lui a refusé la main
ML Barry, a 30-year-old molder, was sentenced to ten years in prison for rape and statutory rape. The case began when the parents of the alleged victim, D. Sylla, refused to grant him their daughter's hand in marriage, citing her young age, reports L'Observateur, which attended the hearing.
Enraged, Barry kidnapped the girl and attempted to flee with her to Spain. He didn't stop there: during their eleven-day escape, he had repeated sexual intercourse with the minor.
Medical examinations also confirmed the presence of "recent hymenal tears."
Once found, the young girl claimed to have a "secret romantic relationship" with the accused. However, her consent has no legal value, due to her age, the same source specifies.
Barry, who initially managed to escape after an initial arrest, was finally arrested and placed in custody following a complaint filed by the victim's grandfather.
The latter, quoted by the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, explained that he had been informed by his nephew, S. Niakhasso, that Barry had kidnapped his granddaughter, without the knowledge of her mother, who was "ill at the time of the events."
The Tambacounda Criminal Court found Barry guilty and sentenced him to ten years of criminal imprisonment, along with a fine of 100,000 CFA francs.
