TAMBACOUNDA : Le bébé de l’année 2026 nous vient de Ballou à Bakel
The first baby of 2026 in the Tambacounda region is a little girl, born at midnight on January 1st, 2026, at the Ballou health post in the Bakel department. This New Year's miracle is the fourth child of Cissé Nianghaneé, a 32-year-old mother whose husband emigrated to Ivory Coast.
To mark this exceptional event, the deputy mayor, Bakary Nianghané, accompanied by the local people, went very early this Thursday morning to congratulate the happy mother and celebrate the birth of this baby in the presence of the midwife Ba Aminata Ly and her team.
"With a daughter first, 2026 will be a year of peace and prosperity," says the deputy mayor.
Midwife Maimouna Ly Ba recounts the circumstances of the birth: “The mother arrived around 10 p.m. She was already quite dilated. We monitored her. She was 6 cm dilated upon arrival. We took all necessary precautions after informing the head nurse and all members of the health facility. Al hamdoulilah, she gave birth to a baby girl at midnight. She is still at the health post for follow-up care. Both mother and baby are doing wonderfully.”
The midwife nevertheless laments the fact that the mother and her baby did not receive any gifts, as was the case in other health facilities where the first baby of the year is registered.
