Three individuals, A. Bâ (22 years old), A. Touré (41 years old), and A. Konaté (22 years old), appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses to answer for alleged cattle theft. They are accused of stealing 17 goats belonging to A. Sow and M. Ndiaye, before reselling some of them.

In court, A. Bâ, presented as the mastermind of the operation, admitted to the facts, while maintaining that his two co-defendants were not involved in the theft. He specified, however, that he had only stolen six goats, and that he had done so without any accomplices.

“I found the goats in the bush around 3 p.m. I took them to Keur Moussa before asking A. Touré to help me find a vehicle to transport them to Bambilor to resell them,” he said.

A trip to Bambilor that goes wrong

According to his account, A. Touré then arrived with A. Konaté and the driver, M. Diop, who was paid 18,000 FCFA for the transport. The defendants made their first trip, during which six goats were transported and sold in Bambilor for 180,000 FCFA. It was during their second attempt at transporting the goats that they were caught and arrested.

For their part, A. Touré and A. Konaté denied any involvement in the theft, maintaining that they were unaware that the animals came from a criminal act.

The plaintiff, Mr. Ndiaye, stated that the defendants were arrested while attempting a second transport. He claimed 400,000 FCFA in damages. The other plaintiff, A. Sow, requested 500,000 FCFA in compensation.

The public prosecutor has requested the application of the law.

Following deliberations, the court acquitted A. Touré and A. Konaté due to reasonable doubt. However, it found A. Bâ guilty of theft and sentenced him to two years in prison and a fine of 500,000 FCFA. He will also have to pay 400,000 FCFA to M. Ndiaye and 500,000 FCFA to A. Sow as compensation.
