The Saly Research Brigade (BR) of the Mbour gendarmerie company dealt a severe blow to the trafficking of abortion drugs with the dismantling of a network operating between Saly and Keur Serigne Bi in Dakar. Three people, including a medical representative, were arrested and a large quantity of prohibited medications was seized, according to exclusive information obtained by Seneweb.

The operation followed the exploitation of intelligence concerning the trafficking of abortion pills in and around Saly. Immediately, investigators from the Research Brigade devised a well-thought-out plan to apprehend the perpetrators.

Through discreet maneuvers, the police managed to place an order for two tablets of the prohibited product with the trader FK, 31 years old, who turned out to be a local reseller.

A malicious command that brings down the network

When FK arrived at the meeting place, he contacted Ms. MBN, a medical representative, who turned out to be his supplier of C.200 micrograms, a drug diverted from its medical use to voluntarily terminate pregnancies.

The merchant sent her 32,000 CFA francs via Wave. On the phone, the medical representative indicated that the product would be shipped from Dakar and would be available that same evening.

After receiving the order, Ms. MBN was arrested at her home. The merchant FK was also arrested.

Tracing the supply chain back to Dakar

When asked about the origin of the C.200 micrograms, MBN cited the name of OD who runs a drug stall in Sandaga Keur Serigne Bi in Dakar.

Armed with this information, the investigators made a trip to Dakar which resulted in the arrest of the network's main supplier.

The police seized his stock of prohibited medicines and took him to Saly for further proceedings.

The three suspects, FK, a trader, MBN, a medical representative, and OD, a supplier based in Keur Serigne Bi, were taken into custody for criminal association, illegal sale of pharmaceutical products intended for clandestine abortion, endangering the lives of others and illegal practice of pharmacy, according to Seneweb sources close to the prosecutor's office.

At the end of the investigation, the three suspects were brought before the High Court of Mbour where they will have to answer for their actions before the law.

This dismantling sheds light on a well-organised network that supplied the local market with drugs diverted from their therapeutic use for clandestine abortion practices, seriously endangering the lives of women who resorted to them without proper medical supervision.
