Saint-Louis' Ousmane Masseck Ndiaye Airport has just reached a major milestone in its development. This Thursday, an official ceremony was held to mark the transfer of management of its air navigation services to the Agency for Air Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA).
The event was chaired by the Minister of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, Yankhoba Diémé, in the presence of the Director General of AIBD, Bamba Dièye, as well as local authorities.
In his speech, the minister stressed the importance of this transfer, a symbol of Senegal's desire to ensure the safety, efficiency and modernization of its airspace.
"This action reflects our commitment to respecting the most demanding international standards in air traffic management, but also to strengthening cooperation with ASECNA, a strategic partner recognized for its expertise," said Yankhoba Diémé.
This transfer is part of Article 2 of the agreement governing ASECNA. It marks a crucial step in the development of Saint-Louis Airport, considered a strategic infrastructure of the national airport system.
The minister recalled that this modernization is perfectly aligned with Senegal's ambitions, driven by the Senegal 2050 vision.
Improving air navigation services will not only help to smooth traffic flow, but also strengthen the economic and tourist attractiveness of the northern region of the country.
"By entrusting the technical management of services to ASECNA, we guarantee high-quality supervision, meeting safety and performance requirements. This choice also strengthens the integration of our airspace into regional and international frameworks," added Mr. Diémé.
The minister also praised the decisive role played by AIBD SA and ANACIM in the success of this transition. "Their professionalism and commitment were essential," he concluded.
With this transfer, the Ousmane Masseck Ndiaye Airport in Saint-Louis opens up to new perspectives, consolidating its place in the Senegalese and sub-regional air network.
