Vol à l'hôtel "Les Manguiers" de Guéréo : le procureur sermonne le polygame surpris en train de...
On Friday, April 24th, the "Les Manguiers" hotel in Guéréo was suddenly without water during a busy period. While inspecting the well's installations to identify the fault, the hotel's electrician caught ML Diop red-handed, pliers in hand, cutting electrical cables.
Aged 49, married to two women and father of four, the defendant appeared last Thursday before the Mbour Magistrate's Court. In the dock, he did not contest the facts, delivering testimony that chilled those present: driven to desperation by poverty, he hoped to resell the copper at 3,000 FCFA per kilo simply to "buy food" for his family, reports L'Observateur, which attended the trial.
According to the same source, the plaintiff remains furious and is demanding 2 million CFA francs in damages for the harm suffered by the hotel. The prosecutor, while sympathetic to the family man's social circumstances, insisted that "hunger does not excuse everything" before requesting a six-month prison sentence.
ML Diop, head bowed, begged the court for leniency, promising never to reoffend. The case was adjourned for deliberation, and the verdict is expected on May 21, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
