Vol présumé de bétail : Le parquet requiert 2 ans ferme contre P. Sène, le juge le relaxe au bénéfice du doute
On Friday, January 16, 2026, electrician P. Sène appeared before the Thiès court of flagrant offenses for the theft of livestock, involving seven sheep including a lamb, which took place in Khombole.
In court, the defendant categorically denied the accusations. He explained that he had left Dakar after being called out to provide vehicle assistance in Khombole. According to his account, it was upon arrival that he was apprehended by locals, tied up, and severely beaten before being handed over to the gendarmerie.
The plaintiff, K. Niang, stated that he was informed by neighbors before discovering the disappearance of his sheep. He emphasized that his lamb had been abandoned on the school grounds because it was sick. He is claiming 1,300,000 FCFA in compensation for the damages suffered.
Called as a witness, Mr. Diop gave a damning account.
"When I heard the lamb bleating, I went outside with my little brother to see what was happening. We discovered that the lamb had been abandoned alone on the school grounds and that the person responsible was there. It was 2 a.m.," he said.
The witness added that sheep hairs were visible on the defendant's back. Continuing his explanation, Mr. Diop indicated that, following P. Sène's statement that he had been called for roadside assistance, they went to the owner of the trucks in the area, who made it clear that he did not know him.
Considering the facts sufficiently established, the public prosecutor upheld the charge of cattle theft and requested a two-year prison sentence against the defendant.
The judge acquitted him due to reasonable doubt.
