Algeria was eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations by Nigeria on Saturday (2-0) in the quarter-finals. The match ended in scenes of tension, both between players and in the stands.

There was a lot of frustration among the Fennecs. Beaten by a very impressive Nigeria, Algeria will not join Morocco in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Vladimir Petković's players never managed to impose their game against a Super Eagles side that made a strong attacking impression, as it has throughout the tournament. This was enough to cause considerable anger.

At the final whistle, tempers flared on the pitch. Algeria's goalkeeper, Luca Zidane, was among the most agitated players and even grabbed Raphael Onyedika, who retaliated by pushing him away, as shown in footage from Foot Mercato. The scene escalated into a full-blown brawl, while players and staff from both teams tried to calm everyone down.

The referee was escorted off the field

The referee, Senegalese Issa Sy, had to be escorted off the pitch by security as a precaution. Other images taken at the stadium show some angry Algerian fans, ready to enter the pitch, being held back by security forces.

ho à dire vrai, les algériens avaient de quoi se révolter sur un penalty non accordé en début de 1er temps qui pouvait changer le cours du jeu. la caf et sûrement personne n'aurait aimé une rencontre Algérie contre Maroc par peur de gâcher la Can. ils ne s'aiment pas et risque d'aller en guerre

Il y avait penalty, l'assistant VAR n'a pas invité l'arbitre à aller regarder la petite lucarne. A mon avis, toute faute de main dans la surface de réparation ou environs doit être checkée.

Pour le penalty, ce n'est pas évident, la balle a heurté la cuisse du joueur avant la main. Les Algériens doivent accepter que le Nigeria était meilleur.
