Algérie : un grand attaquant forfait pour la CAN !
Marseille's Algerian striker, Amine Gouiri, has been dealt a major blow. The 25-year-old forward, who was injured during Tuesday's 2-1 World Cup qualifier against Uganda, is out of the African Cup of Nations.
Stretchered off after a violent shock, he suffered a new shoulder dislocation.
This Saturday, the Marseille club made the news official: Gouiri will have to undergo an operation and will be out for approximately three months. This absence will therefore deprive him of the next African Cup of Nations in Morocco (December 21 - January 18).
"Olympique de Marseille announces that its striker Amine Gouiri will undergo surgery on his right shoulder. This procedure, decided by mutual agreement between the player and the club, follows several episodes of dislocation that have occurred in recent months. Amine will undergo a rehabilitation period estimated at approximately three months. This operation aims to allow him to regain all his physical abilities without apprehension and to come back stronger. The entire club wishes him a speedy recovery and will support him throughout his convalescence," the statement reads.
A real blow for Algeria, which has lost one of its key attacking players two months before the major continental event.
