Amara Traoré : «Le Sénégal peut faire mieux que l’Égypte»
In an interview with Source A, Amara Traoré, coach of the Lions from 2009 to 2012, believes that Senegal's recent victory is far from being a fluke. According to him, it is the result of a patient process that began with the 2018 World Cup.
"When we look at Senegal's journey since 2018, we see a rise in power with a final in 2019, a victory at the 2021 AFCON, a slight dip in 2023, then a return to the top in 2025," he analyzes.
For the former player turned coach, Senegal now boasts a solid squad and a promising new generation of players. With rigorous planning and ambitious goals in sight, including the 2027 and 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, the country has all the assets to establish itself permanently at the top of African football, and even "do better than Egypt," the continent's most decorated nation with seven titles.
