Barrages Coupe du monde 2026 – Zone Afrique : le Nigeria saisit la FIFA contre la RD Congo
Eliminated from the race for the 2026 World Cup after their defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria refuses to move on. Beaten in the final of the African playoffs on November 16th after a penalty shootout (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), the Super Eagles have decided to take the dispute to FIFA.
Through the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Abuja has officially filed a complaint with FIFA, the world governing body of football. The issue concerns the eligibility of certain players fielded by the Congolese national team in this crucial match. Nigerian officials believe these players do not meet the requirements stipulated by the applicable regulations.
The NFF is relying in particular on Congolese legislation, which does not recognize dual nationality. However, according to the Nigerian federation, several DR Congo internationals possess two passports, a situation deemed incompatible with national laws and likely to invalidate their participation in the match.
