Brésil : 200 000 fausses vignettes du Mondial-2026 saisies près de Rio
Brazilian authorities have announced a major seizure related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Rio de Janeiro police, nearly 200,000 counterfeit Panini sticker albums were discovered Thursday night on a bus in Nova Iguaçu, in the northern suburbs of Rio.
Law enforcement also seized several counterfeit Brazilian national football team jerseys. Images released by the police show stacks of stickers alongside yellow Seleção jerseys bearing the famous number 10.
In a statement, authorities specified that all the seized material would be examined before being destroyed. The investigation is ongoing to identify those involved in the manufacture and distribution of these counterfeit products.
In Brazil, Panini sticker albums are always hugely popular in the run-up to the World Cup. As in previous years, sticker trading increases in schools, public squares, and the streets of major cities.
One detail, however, is puzzling Brazilian fans this year: the 2026 World Cup sticker album doesn't yet contain a Neymar sticker. Yet, the former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star is indeed included in coach Carlo Ancelotti's latest squad list.
In response to numerous reactions, Panini indicated in a statement relayed by the Brazilian press that a new batch of stickers should soon be produced in order to update the album.
