CAF : le plan du Sénégal pour bloquer la restitution du trophée
Following the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeals board, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has a limited time to contest the return of the trophy and medals. According to Article 48 of the Confederation's statutes, Senegal can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within ten days of notification of the decision, reports L'Observateur.
This article stipulates that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is the sole competent body to rule on any appeal against disciplinary sanctions ultimately imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) or FIFA. However, the newspaper notes, the major obstacle lies in paragraph 7 of the same regulation: an appeal to the Lausanne court does not automatically suspend the sanction. In theory, the CAF's decision therefore remains enforceable, and Senegal could be forced to return the Cup even before the CAS issues its final verdict.
To counter this possibility, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has the option of requesting interim measures, namely a suspension of the execution of the ruling. The aim of this strategy is to keep the trophy and medals in Senegal until the arbitration tribunal issues a final ruling on the merits of the case, suggests the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
