CAN 2025 : Claude Le Roy dénonce une décision « pitoyable »
Controversy is growing around the 2025 AFCON final. Following the decision by the Confederation of African Football to award the title to Morocco by default, reactions are multiplying in the football world.
Senegal, the winners of the final played on January 18th, were declared to have forfeited the match after leaving the pitch during the game. This decision had serious consequences, resulting in their disqualification in favor of the Atlas Lions.
Asked to comment, Claude Le Roy didn't mince words. The former national team coach, who notably managed Senegal, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, strongly criticized the verdict handed down by the governing body of African football.
Speaking to La Chaîne L'Équipe, he denounced a decision which, according to him, was tainted by irregularities:
"There was a lot of shady dealing involved in deciding that Morocco is the champion. It's pathetic for the image of the CAF," he said, before adding: "It seems like Morocco can get away with anything. This is probably just the beginning of this affair."
These comments reignite the debate surrounding this controversial final, the repercussions of which could still be felt in the weeks to come.
