CAN 2025 : « Jouez ensemble, combattez ensemble, souffrez ensemble » (Diomaye Faye)
On Thursday, President Diomaye Faye presided over the solemn ceremony of presenting the national flag to the national football team, en route to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Addressing representatives of various institutions, members of the Federation, journalists, and fans, the Head of State emphasized the powerful symbolism of this gesture and the importance of the mission entrusted to the Lions of Teranga.
A flag, a symbol, a mission
“The flag I have just presented to you is not simply a banner. It is the breath of a nation, the symbol of our dignity, our honor, and our unity,” declared President Faye. He emphasized that this flag embodies “the work, faith, and perseverance of millions of Senegalese men and women who believe in you and who will be thrilled by your every move on the Moroccan pitches.”
Solidarity, discipline and excellence
The head of state encouraged the players to remain united and supportive: “Play together. Fight together. Suffer together. And, at the end of the road, triumph together. Embody discipline in effort, perseverance in adversity, and cohesion in difficulty.”
A tribute to the coach and the players of football
Addressing the national coach, President Faye praised his work and rigor: "You are the heir to a golden generation. You have managed to breathe new life into this team and maintain our national team at a very high level of performance."
He also congratulated the President of the Senegalese Football Federation, the members of the executive committee and all football stakeholders for their commitment to the development of the sport in the country.
Clear objective for the 2025 AFCON
The President reiterated that the objective for this edition is clear: "To win a second star and open a new chapter in Senegal's history in the pantheon of African football." He assured the team that the Senegalese state would support them with all necessary resources: "You will never be alone. You have behind you an entire nation, a committed government, and a people united in their love for the national flag."
Support at all levels
The President also praised the fans and journalists who accompany the team everywhere: "These women and men wear the colors of Senegal with passion. Continue with cohesion, discipline and unity, because it is together that we will be stronger."
In conclusion, the Head of State delivered a vibrant message of encouragement: “Go forward, Lions! Go and write a new glorious page in our history. Go and get that second star! May God bless your efforts, protect you and guide you on the path to victory. Long live the Lions of Teranga! Long live Senegal!”
