CAN 2025 : un arbitre polémique désigné pour Algérie - Soudan
Now that we know the referee for the Algeria - Sudan match, this choice has sparked a heated controversy!
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) appointed Gabonese referee Pierre Atcho on Monday to officiate the Algeria-Sudan match, scheduled for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be handled by Senegalese referee Issa Sy. However, this announcement has already sparked considerable concern among fans and the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) due to the Gabonese referee's controversial past.
As the Green Wave explains, during the last Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Atcho was in charge of VAR for Algeria's matches against Angola and Burkina Faso. His performance provoked much criticism, particularly after the match against Burkina Faso, where the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) felt that certain plays had not been properly reviewed, depriving the Algerian team of two clear penalties.
