CAN Maroc-2025 - Buts, tirs, passes, dribbles… : Les stats des Lions qui montrent une maîtrise collective, mais une efficacité à parfaire
The Lions of Senegal's journey at the Africa Cup of Nations will be remembered for their strong collective control, solid statistics, but also some areas for improvement, particularly in attack.
In terms of passing, Senegal established themselves as the best team in the competition. In seven matches, the Lions completed 3,562 passes, 3,073 of which were successful, representing an impressive 86% success rate, the highest in the tournament. This statistic reveals a technically gifted team, capable of dominating possession and dictating the tempo against any opponent.
Offensively, Pape Thiaw's men attempted 108 shots, a total identical to that of Morocco, proof of a constant desire to push forward.
However, Senegal's finishing in front of goal was sometimes lacking. With 13 goals scored, they finished just behind Nigeria with 14. Their conversion rate was thus 14.9%, a respectable figure but one that could be improved given the chances created.
On the disciplinary front, the Lions received 17 yellow cards and one red card, shown to Kalidou Koulibaly. This sometimes excessive intensity reflects Senegal's physical commitment, but it also proved costly at certain key moments.
In the battle, Senegal never backed down. The Lions committed 124 fouls while suffering 90, confirming their constant presence in duels. They also completed 54 dribbles. This demonstrates the ability of certain players to make a difference individually.
Defensively, Senegal displayed a very reassuring performance. Having conceded only two goals throughout the entire competition, the Senegalese defense was among the most solid in the tournament. The Lions won 361 duels, with a 64.10% tackle success rate, confirming their solidity, tactical discipline, and willingness to sacrifice.
Senegal presented a mature, balanced, and dominant team. While their attacking efficiency can still be improved, the foundations remain solid for an ambitious future.
