CAN Maroc-2025 : L’Afrique du Sud dévoile une liste fortement tournée vers le championnat local
With just under three weeks to go before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, South Africa was one of the first teams to release its final squad list. Coach Hugo Broos selected 25 players, confirming his intention to build on the continuity and strength of a group that finished third at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
True to his philosophy, the Belgian coach has once again built his team around a large majority of players from the South African league. Mamelodi Sundowns (5 players) and Orlando Pirates (9 players) form the core of the squad, reflecting their dominance in domestic competitions and their experience in African cups.
While the local core remains central, Hugo Broos has also integrated several expatriate players to bring added experience, creativity, and tactical diversity. The coach considers this balance essential for Bafana Bafana to compete with the continent's most ambitious nations.
As a reminder, South Africa, placed in Group B, will face Angola, Egypt and Zimbabwe.
