CAN Maroc-2025 - Pointe des Lions : Pape Thiaw cherche toujours son 9
Since the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegalese national team has struggled to find an undisputed center-forward. This situation has led coach Pape Thiaw to try out numerous players, without yet identifying a true leader at the forefront of the attack.
For the opening match of the competition, the Senegalese coach placed his trust in Nicolas Jackson. A wise choice against Botswana, as the striker distinguished himself with a convincing brace. This impressive start suggested a rise to prominence for the player who came up through the Casa Sports youth system.
But the rest of the tournament quickly dampened those hopes. In subsequent matches, Jackson reverted to his old habits, missing several clear opportunities that could have made things easier for the Lions.
In one of these matches, his replacement, Chérif Ndiaye, immediately found the back of the net, reigniting the debate surrounding the center-forward position. Despite this, Pape Thiaw decided to maintain his faith in Nicolas Jackson for the match against DR Congo. A gamble that backfired, as the striker, now at Bayern Munich, had a completely ineffective game.
For the final group stage match against Benin, the coach opted for Habib Diallo. Starting up front, the former Génération Foot player quickly made his mark. He scored Senegal's second goal, perfectly converting a pinpoint cross from Sadio Mané. This performance seemed to secure his place in the starting eleven.
But in the round of 16, Pape Thiaw surprised everyone by recalling Nicolas Jackson to the starting eleven, despite Habib Diallo's good performance. Another unsuccessful attempt. Struggling, the Banjul native was replaced in the 53rd minute by Boulaye Dia, further evidence of the Senegalese players' predicament at center-forward.
In the quarter-final against Mali, the coach gave Habib Diallo a second chance. Generous in his effort and intelligent in his movement, the FC Metz striker nevertheless failed to make a significant impact on the solid Malian defense.
On the eve of the semi-final against Egypt, Pape Thiaw and his staff find themselves facing a real dilemma. Nicolas Jackson, Chérif Ndiaye, Habib Diallo and Boulaye Dia: four profiles, four options, but no centre-forward has yet emerged as the obvious choice.
To have any hope of breaking through the Egyptian barrier, Senegal will have to find the right attacking formula, at a time when every detail can tip the balance of a competition.
The search for the savior striker therefore remains open for the Lions, as they approach the decisive turning point of this AFCON-2025.

Avec le pléthore de cartons jaunes sur le dos de l’équipe nationale, le Sénégal doit avoir la bonne stratégie pour sortir vainqueur de ce match. Un match qui s’annonce très athlétique avec Idrissa Gana Gueye qui a déjà joué 5 matchs successifs sur ses jambes. L’Egypte a déjà démontré que c’est une équipe très faible sur les balles arrêtées.
Le Sénégal détient dans son effectif 3 joueurs capables de faire la différence sur les balles arrêtées à savoir

Mamadou Sarr ( Strasbourg ) et le dernier Abdoulaye Seck que je n’utiliserais jamais dans ce match parce qu’il n’est compatible avec la rapidité des égyptiens, trop lourd devant les Marmousse et autres.
Rappelons que Ismaīla Jackob a toujours réussi ces matchs contre Mohamed Salah

Moi je pense que le sénégal jouerait mieux actuellement sans attaquant de pointe car ceux que nous disposons actuellement sont tous nuls et n'apportent rien dans le jeu et ratent bcp d'occasions meme les plus faciles. Avec les milieux dont nous disposons en plus de sadio , illimane, ismaila sarr , mbaye , sabaly y a de quoi former un trés bon 11 sans ces attaquants. je donne l'exemple de 2002 sans faire de comparaison où Bruno metsu jouait sans attaquant de pointe dans un 4-4-2 avec diouf et henry en attaque et il s'en sortait trés bien avec un trés bon jeu. Et aujourd'hui Pap thiaw dispose plus d'atouts que Metsu. Aprés cette can, thiaw doit explorer d'autres attaquants en perspective de la coupe du monde, et meme assane diao s'il est en forme pourrait etre l'attaquant de pointe qu'il cherche.
il peut avoir un probleme de confiance dès les deuxième match contre la RDC tout le monde lui est tombé dessus.
En 2018 la France a gagné le mondial avec Olivier Giroud qui bien que très bon attaquant n'a pas marqué un seul but dans le tournoi, en 98 la France a gagné le mondial avec Guivarch qui bien que meilleur buteur de Ligue 1 n'a pas marqué une seule fois dans le tournoi.
Donnons sa chance à Jackson et la confiance qui va avec et cela devrait suffire face aux défenses africaines qui ne sont pas non plus des ogres. et dans les 20-30 dernières minutes Habib peut entrer pour porter l'estocade.
