The final matchday of Group D offers a tantalizing duel between Senegal and Benin, with first place at stake. The Lions want to finish as group leaders, while the Cheetahs dream of another upset after their historic first victory.

However, Steve Mounie's teammates will face Sadio Mané, the Cheetahs' designated tormentor.

After a stellar performance against DR Congo, capped by a crucial equalizer, Sadio Mané will once again be the most anticipated striker in this decisive match. And with good reason! Benin has been a particularly favorable opponent for the Senegalese number 10.

Indeed, during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Sadio Mané distinguished himself in the quarter-final against the Cheetahs (1-0), providing the decisive assist to Idrissa Gana Gueye for the winning goal. Three years later, during the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Lions' striker made a strong impact by scoring a hat-trick (12th, 22nd and 60th minutes), allowing Senegal to defeat the Cheetahs (3-1).

More recently, on March 26, 2024, the former Liverpool player did it again by converting a penalty in a friendly match won by Senegal against Benin (1-0).

In great form since the start of this AFCON, Sadio Mané will be keen to continue this momentum and score, once again, against his favorite victim, in order to offer another victory to the Lions.
