Heartbreaking news has cast a shadow over the celebrations of African football, particularly for the Burkina Faso national team. Stallions midfielder Stéphane Aziz Ki has lost his son while fully engaged with his national team, which is scheduled to play Ivory Coast in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

The announcement was made this Friday, January 2, 2026, by Wydad Athletic Club, the club of the Burkinabe international, in a statement published on its social media. The Casablanca club expressed its deep emotion.

"It is with great sorrow that Wydad Athletic Club presents its sincere condolences and all its compassion to our player Stéphane Aziz Ki, following the death of his son," the statement reads.
