CAN Maroc 2026 : le joueur le plus âgé du tournoi dispute ses premières minutes
The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations brings together many young talents of African football, who are highly expected to shine in Morocco. While Senegalese striker Ibrahim Mbaye (17 years old) and Ugandan James Bogere (17 years old) have already played their first minutes in the competition, the youngest player in the tournament, Zimbabwean Tadiwa Chakuchichi (16 years old), remained on the bench during his country's defeat against Mohamed Salah's Egypt (2-1).
Conversely, the oldest player at this AFCON also made his debut. This was Mozambique's Elias Gaspar Pelembé, better known as Dominguéz. The 42-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in Mozambique's narrow 1-0 defeat to the defending champions, Ivory Coast.
Despite being quite old for top-level football, Elias Gaspar Pelembé is playing in his second Africa Cup of Nations. A player for UD Songo and a true icon of longevity, he proves once again that talent and experience have no age limit, leading the Mambas in this prestigious continental competition.
Far from being a mere guest of honor, the Mozambican veteran remains an essential tactical pillar for coach Chiquinho Conde.
