CAN : Pape Thiaw se méfie de la « malice » égyptienne
On the eve of the explosive semi-final between Senegal and Egypt, the Lions' coach, Pape Thiaw, spoke at a press conference on several sensitive topics: the "malicious" reputation of the Pharaohs and the delicate situation of several Senegalese players under threat of suspension.
When questioned about the comments of the Ivorian coach Emmerse, who regretted that his team had "fallen into the trap of Egyptian cunning", the Senegalese coach displayed a lucid and cautious discourse.
“As they say, forewarned is forearmed. Emmerse warned us. After this match, we are preparing as usual to thwart all sorts of things that can hurt us. We are prepared,” he assured.
Without getting into controversy, Pape Thiaw stressed the need for his team to remain focused on their game and not to be disturbed by external factors.
Another pressing issue: seven Senegalese players are at risk of suspension if they receive a yellow card. This is undoubtedly a delicate situation for the coaching staff to manage, but one that the manager prefers to downplay.
“We are aware of that. Of course, if one of our seven gets a card, well… But these players want to give their all. They are not going to think about that. The most important thing is to think about playing this match and to be determined to go for the victory,” he explained.
Determined and confident, Pape Thiaw also highlighted the depth of his squad.
"As I often say, there are plenty of people behind us. The players aren't going to hold back. They're going to play the game to the fullest and we'll see what happens afterwards."
