Édouard Mendy après le nul face à la RDC : « Un sentiment mitigé, mais on reste confiants »
Following the draw between Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Édouard Mendy spoke to reporters in the mixed zone. The Lions' goalkeeper offered a clear-eyed analysis of the match, expressing both disappointment and confidence ahead of the decisive final game.
The Senegalese goalkeeper didn't hide his mixed feelings after the result. "It's a bit of a mix of emotions. We're disappointed not to have secured qualification tonight," he admitted. Nevertheless, the former Chelsea goalkeeper was keen to emphasize the positive mindset within the team.
According to Mendy, Senegal remained true to its playing principles. "We're continuing what we've been doing for many months," he explained, highlighting a very high-level first half. "We were very good in the first half. Few teams can impose that rhythm on Congo, and we managed to do it."
The Lions' main regret, however, remains their lack of attacking efficiency. "We failed to capitalize on our chances, which allowed them to stay in the game and keep their hopes alive," he analyzed. Against a solid and well-organized Congolese team, every missed opportunity proved costly.
Édouard Mendy was quick to acknowledge the quality of their opponents. "Congo is a very strong team, with some outstanding individual players and a very good team dynamic. If you don't finish the game off, you'll stay under scrutiny," he warned. The second half, more evenly matched, was a true battle of strength. "They were very good in the second half; it was a 50-50 game."
