Équipe nationale de Libye : Aliou Cissé s’en va
Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé has announced his departure from the helm of the Libyan national football team after several weeks of uncertainty. Despite a respectable record on the pitch, his tenure was marked by tensions stemming from administrative and financial issues.
After several weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future, Aliou Cissé has officially announced his departure from the Libyan national team. The announcement was made by the Senegalese coach himself, through a message posted on his Instagram account, thus bringing to an end an adventure that began in March 2025 with the Knights of the Mediterranean.
Aliou Cissé's time as Libyan coach began promisingly, with a victory against Angola in September 2025 in his first official match. His overall record stands at eight matches played, with three wins, four draws, and only one loss.
Despite generally satisfactory results, his tenure was hampered by off-field difficulties, notably salary arrears partially settled by the Libyan Football Federation. This situation contributed to weakening his position and fueled uncertainty surrounding his continued tenure.
Now a free agent, the former Lions captain could quickly bounce back. His name is already being heavily linked with a move to Equatorial Guinea.
With his experience and his victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Aliou Cissé remains a leading coach on the African continent, ready to take on new challenges.
