Europa League : Aston Villa sacré champion
Aston Villa won the Europa League by largely dominating Freiburg (3-0) in the final on Wednesday.
Unai Emery's men took control of the match thanks to Youri Tielemans, who opened the scoring in the 41st minute. Before the break, Emiliano Buendía doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time (45+3), allowing the English club to go into the dressing room with a comfortable advantage.
Upon returning from the locker room, Morgan Rogers definitively sealed the Villans' success by scoring the third goal in the 58th minute, ending the German club's hopes of a reaction.
With this European title, Aston Villa not only secures a major trophy but also confirms its qualification for the next Champions League. A place in Europe's most prestigious competition seemed all but guaranteed for the Birmingham club thanks to its excellent run in the Premier League, where it sits in 4th place with 62 points with one matchday remaining.
