Finale CAN 2025 : Une double désillusion pour le Maroc !
They hoped to see Senegal stripped of their African championship title. But at the end of the proceedings before the disciplinary bodies of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), heavy sanctions were ultimately imposed on the Moroccan camp.
As previously reported by Seneweb, the CAF has issued its verdict in the contentious case of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, to be played in Rabat between Morocco and Senegal. Following a complaint filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the continental body rejected Morocco's challenge, definitively confirming the victory of the Lions of Teranga and their continental title.
In its appeal, the Moroccan side contested the conduct of the final, citing irregularities and incidents that it believed may have influenced the outcome of the match. However, after reviewing the officials' reports and the evidence submitted, the CAF disciplinary committee determined that these grievances lacked sufficient grounds to overturn the sporting result.
Senegal thus retains its title of African champion, definitively ending speculation about a possible withdrawal of the trophy.
Beyond the rejection of its complaint, Morocco was particularly struck by the severity of the disciplinary sanctions.
CAF has thus pointed to several serious shortcomings during the final, including unsportsmanlike conduct by players, the attitude of some officials, as well as incidents involving supporters.
Suspensions were also handed down to Moroccan players, while the FRMF received heavy financial fines for incidents related to the organization of the match, the invasion of sensitive areas and the use of lasers in the stands.
It should also be noted that Senegal has not escaped sanctions either. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has been fined, and suspensions have been imposed on some members of the coaching staff and players for post-match incidents.
However, these sanctions had no impact on the result of the final: the AFCON 2025 trophy remains firmly in the hands of the Lions of Teranga.
Having suffered a defeat on the field and then lost their case in court and on disciplinary grounds, Morocco emerges from this affair with a double loss. This episode will leave its mark, both financially and in terms of its image, as it approaches the next continental competitions.
