The Senegalese government is taking a stand, 24 hours before the Africa Cup of Nations final, a match that will pit Senegal against Morocco, the host country.
In its statement, the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs emphasizes that this sporting event will be "above all, a celebration of fraternity between two peoples united by deep historical, economic, human and spiritual ties."
He thus emphasized "the excellent long-standing relations of friendship and solidarity between Senegal and Morocco." These relations, he said, are founded on mutual respect and a shared vision of African and international issues. They "have been constantly strengthened over the decades," the ministry insisted.
"In this spirit of trust and partnership, the Ministry emphasizes that, faithful to this long-standing friendship, the Kingdom of Morocco has, since the beginning of the Africa Cup of Nations, demonstrated exemplary cooperation. The Senegalese authorities are satisfied with the consistency of this fraternal attitude and thank the Moroccan government for it," the statement said.
In its statement, the ministry emphasizes that our country considers sport, and in particular football, as a powerful vehicle for bringing people together and fostering cohesion. It adds that this final should therefore "be experienced as a celebration of African talent, the unity of the continent, and the strong fraternity between the Senegalese and Moroccan people, beyond any circumstantial considerations."
He therefore calls on all actors, supporters and public opinion to preserve a spirit of responsibility, respect and fair play, in fidelity to the strength of Senegalese-Moroccan relations and to preserve the image of African football on the international stage.
