Senegal has been handed a tough draw. Group I of the 2026 World Cup (June 11 to July 19), which they share with France, also includes Norway, an opponent that former Lions defender Ferdinand Coly considers formidable. The ex-Lion doesn't hide his apprehension: "Frankly, I would have preferred a different opponent."
As reported by L'Observateur, Coly insists: "Norway is a complete team that offers intensity with an ultra-pragmatic style of football. In transition, they are very dangerous, because up front there is Haaland who converts even half-chances. Frankly, I would have preferred a different opponent."
He also highlights the attacking power of the Haaland–Sørloth duo and the decisive influence of Martin Ødegaard, showing that the Norwegian team does not rely solely on its Manchester City star.
Senegal's fourth opponent will be determined after a playoff tournament involving Iraq, Bolivia, and Suriname. A keen observer, Coly remains cautious about these teams, particularly Iraq: "They're a fast, physical, quality team. They also have the potential to qualify."
For the former Senegalese international, a good performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco will be essential to approach the World Cup with serenity.

Apres le match contre le Bresil, on a vu que pour des matchs à haute intensité, le milieu doit etre formé de jeunes comme Pathe CISS, Lamine CAMARA (qui revient) et non de vieux comme Gana GUEYE. Pape GUEYE peut faire une mi-temps intense.
Un bon milieu bloque toutes les transitions mais il faudrait des attaquants qui mettent la pression devant et pour cela il nous faut un Mame biram DIOUF
Arrêter vos lobbies avec Pathé Ciss et Lamine Camara. Ce dernier avec ses pertes de balles au milieu et sa non chalence nous a coûté chers contres les grandes équipes. Ciss a un jeu transparent et n'apporte pas beaucoup offensivement. Alors, laisser l'entraîneur se concentrer et trouver la bonne formule le jour j. Tirage rek nguen commencer, arrêtez way. Comment tu peux nous vendre Pathe Ciss devant Pape Gueye, ou bien L. Camara devant Habib Diarra ou Illiman Ndiaye.
