Chelsea striker Pedro Neto had offered a flat apology for his actions, but he still risks disciplinary action.

UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea's Portuguese striker Pedro Neto, who violently shoved a ball boy during the Champions League round of 16 first leg against PSG (5-2) on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes, the European body announced on Thursday.

"Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against Pedro Lomba Neto, a player for Chelsea FC, for unsportsmanlike conduct (...) UEFA's disciplinary bodies will rule on this matter in due course," UEFA said in a statement.

During stoppage time in the PSG-Chelsea match, with the score at 4-2 in favor of the Parisian European champions, Neto snatched the ball from a ball boy's hands to quickly take a throw-in, causing the young boy to fall. The incident sparked a minor scuffle before the Portuguese player apologized to the ball boy.

After an interruption, the game resumed without Pedro Neto being sanctioned by the referee, Alejandro Hernandez.

“I want to apologize to the ball boy,” the Chelsea player said after the match. “We were losing and, in the heat of the moment, I wanted to get the ball quickly and I gave him a little push. I’m not usually like that. I acted impulsively and I want to apologize.”
