"LE DANGER DE CE GAMIN, C'EST SON PÈRE": MOUNIR NASRAOUI, L'EXTRAVAGANTE ÉPINE DANS LE PIED DE LAMINE YAMAL
Very active on social media and a fan of commented media appearances, Mounir Nasraoui has a close relationship with his son Lamine Yamal. So much so that he has a negative influence on the Spanish Barça star? That's what some observers claim. Others, like President Laporta, see him as simply a "very passionate" family man, proud of his son's success.
"Lamine Yamal, for better or for worse!" chanted Mounir Nasraoui as Ronaldinho was about to reveal the 2025 Ballon d'Or on September 22. In the solemnity of the ceremony at the Théâtre du Châtelet and in a football world where everything is calculated, scrutinized and commented on, this cry from the heart of a colorful father stands out. Because Mounir Nasraoui likes to show himself, without artifice, and at the same time makes people talk about him.
Hyperactivity on social media, unfiltered media outings, controversies of all kinds... The man who had his son at 15 is far from being a discreet football parent, as is often the case in the industry. So much so that some observers are concerned about his influence on the career of Lamine Yamal, a Spanish prodigy with a bright future ahead of him.
A house painter, Mounir Nasraoui was born in Morocco before joining his mother, who arrived in Spain in 1988 at the age of three. He gave birth to Lamine Yamal in the suburbs of Barcelona with Sheila Ebana, an Equatorial Guinean waitress. Until his parents' separation, the Barça star lived and grew up "in a residence for young parents" in the disadvantaged Rocafonda neighborhood of Mataro. A neighborhood to which Lamine Yamal pays homage with his celebration. The 304 he mimes with his hands after a goal is none other than a reference to the postal code of this Catalan municipality, where he partly grew up.
"Rocafonda is a neighborhood worthy of Lamine Yamal and the best neighborhood in Spain. We are a multicultural neighborhood where we are all equal, we work and live together," Mounir Nasraoui told El Español .
He added to Mundo Deportivo: "This neighborhood is the best in the world and in Spain, because we are all equal and we want the same things for everyone. Ole Rocafonda 304, a landmark for everyone."
Mounir Nasraoui, too, has the Rocafonda neighborhood engraved in his heart. And he proclaims it daily to his approximately 1.3 million Instagram followers who know him as "Hustle Hard 304."
It was on this social network that the 33-year-old found a platform for expression. Through almost daily posts accompanied by fleeting stories, Mounir Nasraoui displays his love for his son, embarks on cooking recipes, and reveals his special relationship with French rapper La Fouine. At the end of September, a few days before the Ballon d'Or ceremony, he was surprisingly spotted with him all over Paris.
This Friday, music by the artist illustrated a photo of Mounir Nasraoui with his son, accompanied by the famous caption: "For better or for worse." A strong support for the Barcelona winger who will once again be sidelined for several weeks due to a pubic injury .
As soon as the player's absence was announced, new questions were raised about the 18-year-old Spaniard's lifestyle. Heavily criticized this summer after a controversial birthday, Lamine Yamal's entourage is as much a cause for concern off the pitch as the player is a source of shivers on European pitches.
"The danger of this kid is his father," Eric Di Meco reacted this Friday on RMC. "He had him very young and he experiences something extraordinary through his son. They go out together, they do everything together... But the balance of a player is the entourage. And when I saw the father who is completely crazy, I said to myself that this little one could be in danger." Before warning: "Perhaps his father will realize at some point that he is harmful to his son. But Yamal must be careful."
Because the antics of "Hustle Hard" do not speak in his favor. The latest one dates back to that famous Ballon d'Or ceremony . After mocking Ousmane Dembélé's level, he said during an interview at the Chiringuito: "I wouldn't say it's theft but moral harm to a human being. Because I believe that Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world. By far... and by far. Not because he's my son but because he's the best player in the world, he has no rival. He's Lamine Yamal. Something very strange happened here."
Enough to embarrass the Catalan club? President Joan Laporta quickly calmed things down by calling for restraint regarding the untimely statements made by Lamine Yamal's father. "Lamine's father is very passionate, and we have to take into account the fact that his son is 18 years old, that all this happened to them very early, and that it's a bit beyond their control," he explained on RAC1.
The main person concerned, however, denies living off his son, even though the latter bought him an apartment in downtown Barcelona. A home in which he had a mural painted depicting himself with his son, his head being twice the size of the Barça player.
For her part, his mother, Sheila Ebana, was offered a house near Barcelona. Although more discreet than Mounir Nasraoui, she also knows how to take advantage of her son's success. This Thursday, she invited fans to dine with her on November 7th in London for the "Football Fans Christmas Party" for a minimum price of 150 euros. The bill can even rise to 800 euros if the "VIP package" is purchased.
Accused of taking advantage of Lamine Yamal, Mounir Nasraoui reacted on his Instagram account: "I never said I was living at my son's expense. I'm just incredibly grateful for everything he does for his family. I will never let anyone take advantage of him. It's very easy to talk. When he was little and I took him to training every day, there was no one else. No one knows what we went through."
But then, what real influence does Mounir Nasraoui have on Lamine Yamal? While his son considers him a friend ("We see each other every day and play PlayStation together"), he is not at the stage of managing his career, unlike Neymar's father, who is often singled out when it comes to discussing regrets about the Brazilian's career.
"He's not the typical footballer who depends on his father, quite the opposite. He's not like Neymar. If he has to, he doesn't even pick up the phone," a source close to the family recently told El Mundo . The Spanish media outlet points out that, since his professional career and the start of his collaboration with agent Jorge Mendes, Lamine Yamal is no longer accompanied by his father when he negotiates with the club.
Without being overly concerned about the player's potential bad company, Barça had nevertheless taken preventive measures from a young age by having him join La Masia full-time, which is not automatic when the children live on the outskirts of the Catalan capital. Because FC Barcelona wants the best from Lamine Yamal, and not the worst.
