Le prêt de Nicolas Jackson au Bayern échoue après un revirement de Chelsea
The loan of Senegalese striker Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich, which was a given after an agreement between Chelsea and the Munich club, finally fell through on Saturday, with the English club ultimately wanting to keep Jackson after the injury to their new recruit Liam Delap.
"Chelsea informed us that they wanted to get the player back, after we agreed yesterday (Friday). The current situation is that the player is in Munich and we will send him back" to London, explained Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, on Saturday evening, after the league match in Augsburg won by the Munich team (3-2).
Nicolas Jackson arrived in Munich early this afternoon for his medical after Bayern and Chelsea agreed on a one-year loan for €15 million, with a purchase option to be activated for €65 million, according to English and German media.
But the injury to Chelsea's new centre-forward Liam Delap on Saturday afternoon against Fulham led the English club to make a U-turn.
Coach Enzo Maresca has spoken of a possible absence of "six or eight weeks" for his new signing, and the Blues have informed Bayern of their change of heart, asking Jackson to return to London.
Nicolas Jackson "would have been a very, very good choice from our point of view, he would have been a perfect fit. Now the situation is as it is and we have to try to resolve it," added Max Eberl.
The transfer window ends in less than 48 hours and Bayern are trying to strengthen their attacking force, after the departures of Thomas Müller (to Vancouver), Leroy Sané (to Galatasaray), Mathys Tel (loaned to Tottenham in January, the London club has activated the purchase option), Kingsley Coman (to Al-Nassr), only compensated by the arrival of Luis Diaz from Liverpool.
Along with other sporting director Christoph Freund and coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern "will calmly decide what we're going to do, how we're going to do it, and what's still possible. Everyone will continue to activate their network and contacts, and we'll see what's still possible," Eberl concluded.
