Some debuts go almost unnoticed. Others immediately leave their mark. Meziane Mesloub, for one, experienced an unforgettable evening for his Ligue 1 debut.
On Friday, in the opening match of the 33rd round of fixtures, RC Lens struggled to break down Nantes' defense. Dominant but wasteful, the Sang et Or (Blood and Gold) saw two goals from Saïd and Abdallah Sima disallowed, while the Canaries were fighting for their survival in the top flight.
It took the introduction of a 16-year-old to finally erupt at Bollaert. Just 18 seconds after stepping onto the pitch, Meziane Mesloub sent the stadium into raptures. Played in with a perfect pass, the young striker controlled the ball before unleashing an unstoppable left-footed shot to open the scoring in the 79th minute (1-0).
An incredible turn of events for the young talent of Algerian descent, who scored his first professional goal in his very first appearance with the first team. This goal not only secured the victory for Lens, but also guaranteed their qualification for the next Champions League thanks to this valuable second-place finish. For Nantes, however, this goal felt like a death knell, as it relegated the Canaries to Ligue 2.
