Liga : Joan Laporta tacle le Real « Le Real Madrid a eu sa chance habituelle hier »
In the midst of his campaign for re-election as president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta couldn't resist taking a dig at their historic rivals, Real Madrid. The Catalan executive reacted strongly to Real Madrid's 2-1 victory away to Celta Vigo.
At the heart of the controversy: the decisive goal scored in the 94th minute by Federico Valverde. According to Laporta, the play that led to this goal should have been stopped due to a foul that went uncalled at the start of the play.
"Real Madrid won last night thanks to a refereeing error. If it had been us, the goal would have been disallowed by VAR," said the Barcelona president, who is currently engaged in an election campaign to retain his position.
The footage of the play did indeed show contact between two players at the start of the action. However, after review by video assistant referee (VAR), the referee ultimately allowed the goal, thus giving Real Madrid the three points.
