With only one goal conceded this season in the 3-1 victory against Rennes, Lyon currently has the best defense in Ligue 1. However, the French club maintains the same framework in this sector, which was deemed porous last season.
In an interview with the Olympique-et-Lyonnais website, central defender Moussa Niakhaté (29 years old, 7 matches in all competitions this season) attributed this success to the work done during preparation.
"The work is incredible. We've had six weeks to fine-tune it. I know the staff worked really hard during the holidays analyzing why we were so vulnerable, why we were conceding so many goals. And they shared their opinions and observations with us as soon as we returned to training," the Senegalese international emphasized.
"We worked a lot, with a lot of rehearsals. It's not what we like the most, but with repetition, it sinks in. And when there's a group that's so objective about what was done last year, that sees the same things and wants to move forward and isn't afraid of being singled out and correcting things, it produces results," said the Lions defender.
