Mascotte officielle des JOJ DAKAR 2026 : Une réalisation purement sénégalaise
Senegal has placed its trust in the competence and creativity of its youth. For the creation of an official mascot for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the authorities sought no outside assistance. Everything was designed and produced in the country by two young high school students.
Presented to the Senegalese people this Friday, October 31st, the official mascot of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games is named "AYO," a name of Yoruba origin meaning "joy." The name "AYO" was suggested by Ndèye Khady Kristall Coumba Sarr, a high school senior. Aged 18, she is from the Saint-Louis Regional Education Authority. "AYO" is a young lion symbolizing the joy and energy of Senegalese youth.
The design of the mascot "AYO" was conceived by Ndèye Mariama Diop, a high school sophomore. Aged 16, she comes from the Pikine-Guédiawaye Education Authority district. Inspired by traditional African clothing, she brought to life this lion, which serves as a symbol for the nation.
Ndèye Khady Kristall Coumba Sarr and Ndèye Mariama Diop have showcased Senegalese creativity and academic genius. They are a source of national pride and represent an inspiring generation, full of hope and promise for the future of Senegal.
This official mascot was chosen following a national competition organized by the Ministry of Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and the collective of art education teachers. Held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, throughout the country, this competition saw the participation of 479 student artists in total, including boys and girls aged between 12 and 18.
This competition was open to middle and high school students across the country. Each school could select two candidates, and registration was done online. This competition captivated the imagination and reflected the cultural identity of Senegal.
The Ministry of National Education welcomed this success before warmly congratulating these two young talents, as well as all the participating students from the 14 regions of the country.
We have learned that the two winners of this national competition will be rewarded and they could benefit from support in professional training.

Ces jeux dédiés à la jeunesse du monde entier étaient l’occasion de faire un clin d’œil symbolique à la jeunesse sénégalaise, clin d’œil qui parlerait à toutes les jeunesses du monde : cette mascotte, je l’aurais bien appelé N’GORSI.
Cette appellation n’est pas à associer avec un certain homme politique, elle a existé bien avant ses aïeuls. Il se trouvent que des jeunes étrangers qui vont participer à ces jeux vont certainement me demander de leur expliquer le sens et la signification du nom donné à la mascotte et honnêtement je ne saurais pas quoi leur répondre. Avec N’gorsi, j’aurais été comme un poisson dans l’eau car je crois dur comme fer en la jeunesse.
Bravo pour la multiculturalité
Huit biens pillés par le capitaine français Emile Faidherbe au XIXᵉ siècle, retrouvés au musée de Dunkerque, sont présentés à Thiès, près de Dakar, depuis le 23 octobre et s’annoncent comme la prochaine demande de restitution des autorités sénégalaises.
