Good news for the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF). The 48 federations qualified for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, will receive a 15% increase in their funding. The announcement was made this Tuesday by FIFA from Vancouver, Canada.

The total prize money allocated to participants has now risen to $871 million, or approximately 527.3 billion CFA francs. This budget increase, decided by the FIFA Council, is due to the exceptional commercial success of this edition, the first in history to host 48 nations. Previously, the world governing body had budgeted $727 million, or nearly 440.2 billion CFA francs.

This additional funding is intended in particular to address the concerns of member federations, including that of Senegal, regarding the colossal logistical costs related to travel, taxes and the daily maintenance of delegations on North American soil.

Specifically, the preparation bonus allocated to each country increases from $1.5 million to $2.5 million, representing approximately 1.5 billion CFA francs. As for the basic participation bonus, it is raised to $10 million, or over 6 billion CFA francs. In short, Senegal is guaranteed to receive a minimum total of 7.5 billion CFA francs even before the start of the competition.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the organization's unprecedented financial health, enabling it to support member associations like never before. The governing body anticipates total revenues of $13 billion, or approximately 7,871 billion CFA francs, for the four-year cycle culminating in this tournament.

Finally, performance bonuses are also substantial. The future winner of the tournament, who will be crowned at the final in New York on July 19, will pocket a staggering $50 million, or approximately 30.2 billion FCFA.
