Nouveau stade de Sébikotane : coup d’envoi des travaux, le maire alerte sur les risques de vandalisme
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Sébikotane town hall officially launched the construction of its new municipal stadium. This project, representing a total investment of 1.6 billion FCFA, follows the completion of the "Sebi Sport Park" sports complex.
The facility will be built on a three-hectare site. The complex will include a regulation-size football pitch with synthetic turf, changing rooms, and a lighting system. Two stands will be erected, one covered and one open-air. In addition, a multi-purpose court will allow for basketball, volleyball, handball, volleyball, and baseball.
The project is planned over a total of twenty-four months, divided into three phases. The first phase, lasting six months, involves the construction of the platform, the laying of the turf, and the erection of the perimeter fence. At the end of this phase, the pitch will be ready to host competitions. The second phase, also lasting six months, will focus on the construction of the open-air stand and the multi-purpose area. Finally, a period of twelve months will be dedicated to the covered stand and the landscaping.
The financing arrangement relies on collaboration between several entities. The property developer is responsible for approximately 600 million FCFA for the fencing, turf, and lighting, in accordance with a site development agreement. The government is contributing 500 million FCFA through the Ministry of Local Authorities for the stands and protective fencing, and the Ministry of Sports for the multi-purpose sports area. The municipality is financing the final phase with 500 million FCFA from its own funds.
During the project presentation, Mayor Alioune Pouye emphasized the importance of preserving this infrastructure, noting the high cost of the investment. He called on the public to act responsibly and avoid any acts of vandalism or violence during sporting events.
"It is out of the question that the municipality should invest so much only for the stadium to be vandalized tomorrow because of violence. That is unacceptable," he insisted, warning that firm measures would be taken to guarantee the integrity of this public asset.
