Pape Thiaw : « Mon contrat ? C’est réglé »
National coach Pape Thiaw acknowledged on Sunday the existence of "dysfunctions" within the team, while assuring that the situation is now under control, on the eve of the match between Senegal and Norway.
In a pre-match press conference, the Senegalese coach sought to allay concerns arising from reports in the press in recent days regarding alleged internal tensions within the national team.
“Yes, it’s true, there have been some issues. But we’re here, the staff, the players and the Federation. We’re focused on the pitch and on tomorrow’s (Monday evening) match. I think that’s the most important thing,” said the Lions’ coach.
When asked about his contractual situation, which has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, Pape Thiaw indicated that the matter was now closed.
"My contract? It's settled. It took too long. But I must clarify that it was never a question of money, but rather a matter of principle and respect," he explained.
These statements come as several media outlets have reported in recent days on alleged organizational problems within the Senegalese national team currently engaged in its preparations.
The coach, however, insisted on the mobilization of all stakeholders around the Lions' sporting objectives, calling for a refocusing of attention on upcoming deadlines.
Senegal faces Norway this Monday with the ambition of continuing its preparation in a now calmer atmosphere.
