Remise de drapeau aux Lions : "Les attentes sont immenses mais elles sont réalisables" (Koulibaly)
A solemn ritual took place this Wednesday at the Presidential Palace. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye presided over the traditional ceremony of presenting the national flag to the Lions of Senegal. This moment of great symbolic significance marked the national team's departure for a major tournament.
A united group despite a few absences
While the atmosphere was electric, the ceremony was marked by the absence of three players: Ibrahima Mbaye, Habib Diarra, and Assane Diao. Despite these last-minute withdrawals, team spirit remained strong amidst the splendor of the Republic.
"Bring the cup back to Senegal"
Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Kalidou Koulibaly expressed the group's gratitude. The central defender emphasized the sacred nature of this civic gesture:
“This ceremony is special. Receiving the flag, a symbol of our colors and of the Nation, from the hands of the Head of State is a source of immense pride,” he said emotionally.
Displaying unwavering determination, the Lions' captain reassured fans and authorities about the team's fitness and morale. For him, the objective is clear and unapologetic: ultimate victory. "Expectations are immense, but they are achievable. We want to bring the cup back to Senegal," he stated emphatically.
The captain also emphasized that success on the field is inextricably linked to institutional and public support. Referring to "the appeal launched from Kinshasa," he confided that this message had acted as a powerful catalyst for the players.
"The support of the government, the prayers and the support of all Senegalese will allow us to achieve our objectives," he added, praising the work of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the technical staff.
